In 1999, Roger and Sally Riordan paid for the fit-out of an air ambulance for the Royal Flying Doctor Service. The RFDS provides emergency aeromedical evacuations throughout rural and remote Australia for people who are seriously ill or injured and require urgent medical attention.

Dedicated aircraft are used when the RFDS need to transport patients to an appropriate hospital for any further treatment. Following the unexpected death of Sally Riordan, the RFDS agreed to name the air ambulance in her honour.
